Ricardos NO!
Wanted something on for background noise with occasional viewing plus to satisfy morbid curiosity and went with Amazon's Being the Ricardos. Already knew going in it wasn't the best. DEAR GODS, IT'S WORSE!!!
What's his face playing Desi Arnaz: nope, NOT Desi. What's her face playing Vivian Vance; funny you are almost 20 years younger than Nicole Kidman, and the extreme overboard to make you look so old & frumpy. J.K. Simmons; obvious you're trying to channel William Frawley, you get a pass on this mess.
As for Nicole Kidman...so much wrong. Lucille Ball has a very expressive face. Girl, when was the last time you could freely move your forehead? Look like a mask wearing Disney automation amongst humans. The voice work's ok, so long I was out of the room and sight. But every time re-laid eyes on the screen, plunge right back in uncanny valley.
Story's terrible. Too much going on and crammed in for a movie. The bit going on and on about Lucy setting a table (flowers, fuckin, flowers). Should have been a mini series.
Can't believe this crap got nominated and (won a few awards already).

GUESS WHAT, EVERYBODY!!!
Russia has 11 time zones. All of them are currently, dated at the time of this posting, as March 11, 2022 from 5:31am all the way to 2:14pm
LJ STILL EXISTS
ATTENTION: Please read
I did a little html to make the following repost from another person's journal stand out, especially a you-need-to-see-this part (for those unclear, the "his" refers to putler).
I sent a message to support asking if LJ would be available to those outside of Russia Friday and got this reply:
"Thank you for your inquiry.
We don't have any information on any planned Internet service restrictions.
In any situation, we will do everything in our power to keep LiveJournal
accessible to all of its users all over the world.
Regards,
LiveJournal Community Care"
From personally working with the Russian staff at LJ, I take them at their word and believe them. They will do what they can; but of course, if they can't they can't. They are good people.
This very IMPORTANT bit of info came up in the thread:
actually LJ is the site where his political opponents speak out. Remember in, I think 2011? The site was under constant DDS attacks because there were essentially puppet elections going on in Russia. Then the next election cycle the same thing happened.

Remember when posting silly test results were all the rage?

12th grade: You belong in the 12th grade! You’re a cool kid who always looks dapper. You’re pretty laid-back, and your chill attitude keeps you grounded. Still, you’re always ready to have a good time, and you’re a lot of fun at parties. Prom royalty, anyone?
Took again with slightly different answers, Wound up in 1st grade:You got the 1st grade! You’re curious and inquisitive, and you have an enormous thirst for knowledge. That being said, you’re no robot- you’d much rather explore the world for yourself than be told what to do. You’re perceptive and open-minded, allowing you to see the beauty in life. And you get to drink a lot of apple juice.
Okay.
Also took What chicken are you?
You are an arctic chicken!: You live in a very cold place. You are more of an introvert and like keeping things to yourself.
And What mythical creature are you?

I'm not leaving
For the following reasons:
1) Yes, Russians own LJ. BUT who's to say they're pro-putler? Supposedly, the majority over there don't like the guy. Remember, until very recently, the Russian people HAD to toe the line or at least pretend to. The owners may have been presenting a false front to keep LJ and it's users below the radar all this time.
2) With so many Russians protesting right now and growing in number, real change is a possibility. From what I've seen on TV, for every one person hauled off to jail, 100+ more hit the street. What with most of the military out of the country on a fool's errand, ability to circumvent the propaganda and get access to real news, plus all the world-wide recognition and praise for taking a stand against the war, they're not afraid anymore. They are DONE with that asshole, his government, his rules, his tyranny, his lies, his greed, his ego, etc.,. The cherry on top? Thanks to real news, common knowledge now how rich he really is and not a sharer.
3) LJ is a little itty bitty fish in a BIG sea. Putler&Co are busy tussling with an angry kraken and hungry sharks circling, can't spare a moment to deal a nippy minnow.
By staying, feels like a way of supporting those Russian protesters. I hope both they and Ukraine kick him to the curb.
On the off chance LJ does disappear - https://zimon66.dreamwidth.org/profile

On Feb 10th, the mask mandate got dropped for all of NV. BUT, employees are still wearing them. It's still surreal going to a store and be bare-faced like many of the other customers. Meanwhile the partitions are still in place at the registrar and employees masked for the most part.
I really don't know what's going on with covid anymore. Cases are down, however it's still very active?

"What, me worry?"
My reaction to the latest Russian scare in LJ Land.
Can still cross-post to Dreamwidth, just Copy&Paste, not that big of deal.

HAHAHA!!!
At this guy.
Pandemic Life is still pbbbbt (or Bill the Cat's "Thbbft"). Needed a good laugh and a little positive news.
On the home front news: vertical blinds over the sliding back door came down slowly, I noticed something screwy as in drywall screws not holding the weight, tightening did no good. Rigged up a twin flannel top sheet as a makeshift curtain. Amazing what you can do with one hammer, six push pins, length of twine tied in a loop, and some clothes pins.
Dunno how to make a permanent fix because of what I call "stupid architecture". For example, everybody has at least one stupid cupboard - located in the kitchen, impossibly deep, sometimes goes on a left or right angle, with a very narrow door, frequently near a corner and or appliance.
There's many more: too small cupboards/closets, no closet in bedroom, weirdly placed toilet/tub/shower/ decorative fireplaces (shallow hole in the wall with brick above and a mantle), open space overkill, etc.,. Every place has a few.
There is no space above the door. The rigging had to go up into the ceiling. Which was fine for 15+ years - I don't remember when it got install by Dad.
I don't know WHY wouldn't leave space above the door (HELLO? High desert, facing west, can get really cold, can get hot in here too, got to block the elements some). Or WHY had to do this drop portion of ceiling there of all places. Ordered a stud (and other things) finder to see if there's wood something somewhere under there. This is a part that has no attic access - from what I can tell it's wall to roof with drywall.
Got solid sides, but the length of the area, rod would need support in the middle, so ceiling involved again.
Oh well. It's a pretty flannel sheet. Soft muted green with white flowers. Looks rather nice.

Couldn't get "Your LJ in 2021" to post, so here's a sad copy&paste
"1 hour is required to read all entries written by you this year. You can cook a full course meal during this time."
Well excuse me for not feeling like posting much cause of the two year long dumpster fire.
REALLY want the next year to be different, but I dunno. Got my hopes up last year. Barely a week into 2021 and attack on the US Capital, because of a big fat orange colored LIE. It was so sad, stupid, and very embarrassing.
Covid: Still here.
Masks: Still wearing them.
Life: HA!
Already seen TWO warning signs of the Apocalypse.
1) For some reason, had to read up on Soylent Green. The year the movie is set in; 2022.
2) On Dec 19th, went into a major chain supermarket (Safeway). Fully stock Valentine's day display, sharing space with the Xmas one. Nothing for New Year's.
Have to go to Walgreen's eventually, to get vitamins. Dreading I may see the third sign there.

First Omicron case in the US, San Francisco CA, a four hour drive from here (Reno NV). Lot of people went traveling during Thanksgiving. The weather's been really nice. Just a matter of time it will pop up here.
The "gift" that keeps on giving giving giving.
Anyone what to join me in pray for a meteor to put us out of our misery?

Good News: Had no trouble with the time change in the morning
But I am having trouble with the night portion. Walk outside after work, the dark throws me for a minute.
Found out 18 states voted to do away with it. The reason why they haven't yet is congress won't let them. US will probably get Universal Health Care way before giving up this stupid time change.

"Dune" is a two hour plus episode of "Drugs, Inc."
For everybody in that part of space, it's all about heroin cocaine meth spice. They form gangs, have turf wars, for control of the spice. Spice is everywhere and many are hooked. While their mental states expand well beyond the average human mind, addicts also develop permanent physical deformities. Spice must be taken regularly because withdrawals result in certain death.
Currently, there is no effect treatment for spice addiction.
Don't do spice, kids. Mkay?

"Looker" and "Videodrome" are coming too close to reality.
Saw the freakiest report on 60 Minutes about deep fakes. I've known about them, but not how advanced the technology has gotten. So unnerving how real looking the fakes are now.
The site, This person does not exist, is nothing but creations by StyleGAN. Refresh the page for new ones and get increasingly unnerved by the minute.
Most of you probably already familiar with Videodrome (very easy to mentally switch out the movie's then TVs, VCR, and other dated technologies for today's computers, internet, etc., - EEK!). Looker, while not a good movie, does have some concepts that were way ahead of their time (EEK, again).
Both are available to rent for fairly cheap on Amazon.
All this weirdness, just in time for Halloween.

A basket full of raptors
It was really only two sharing space with assorted vegetables. (Raley's) grocery store had bunch of baby raptor skeletons out on display, cause Halloween. Was so damn cute, like a litter of creepy kittens. I had to get one for myself and another to give to my sister latter on as a gift for that holiday we don't mention until AFTER October is over and done with.
Sorry I've been MIA. It's the frickin ongoing covid pall plus various shit that's been going on in the news, the so painfully obvious Helen Keller could see it effects of climate change around here (Drought and so much smoke crossing over from all the CA fires). Didn't feel like I could hold back on not being extra bitchy, sure as hell doubted could put on a happy face.
Things seem to be better now. Kids vaccine should be ready by Halloween, got most of the fires under control, the air is breathable and with blue skies, cooled off some so wearing a mask all day at work isn't so bad...nah, that one still sucks. Maybe one side effect of climate change the Winter's here won't be so damn cold, no more icy roads, rain instead of snow, nothing freezes over anymore, heater can be kept at a reasonable temp so I'm comfortable warm without it running constantly and sucking up humidity and money - a girl can dream.
Anyway, I should be around more often now - unless a meteor puts Earth and us out of our misery first.
