Even werewolves don't provide escapism
Jun. 7th, 2022 11:30 pmSorry for being quiet. US is going to hell in a hand-basket and it is depressing. Keep checking the calendar to see what year it is - the shootings, turning back of women's rights, the horrible laws on trans-kids, hungry babies, high gas prices, climate change, no gun control, no Universal health care, no proper taxing the rich, Bugs Bunny not sawing off TX, Elon Musk's smug-ass face, etc.,.
Sometimes, really wish I could live somewhere outside of 'murica.
Last Friday, went to the DMV to get a Real ID (for those of you outside of the US, reading time). Probably don't need it, but figured I should just in case. DMV person going over my paperwork, brought up a good point: banks are federal buildings. Doubtful non-Real ID holders would be barred entry. But given red states are busily turning themselves into little Gileads....
Anyway. This was my first trip to the new DMV. HUGE improvement over the old site (slaughter house cattle coral in a dungeon). Plenty of parking, plenty of room indoors, plenty of natural light streaming in from above. Only took about an hour.
The drive there, passed some place with barely a handful of force-birthers milling about out front. At first, thought was some charity function carwash thing, until got a better look at the closest sign waver ("We'll adopt your baby"). Immediately flipped the bird, kept it prominently in view as I drove past those assholes.
Now, what about the werewolves? Been wanting to see Eight for Silver, re-titled into Previously used as a title for various other horror movies, including a Wes Craven werewolf one. What the hell? Original title is way catchier, you idiots! The Cursed.
Basic plot: Group of white guys, who are in charge, greedy, rich, must steal what rightly belongs to the Roma, got lots of guns, murder, torture, mock, don't give a damn until they're directly affected, but still cop attitude when their egos are threatened. And there's werewolves.
Of course, those who suffer for most of the movie, aren't them. The ones unfairly punished for said white guys actions are people beneath them - children, servants, women.
Sound familiar?
In the past, I would have taken in the whole thing. Now, with what's going on in the real world? Couldn't stop focusing on the elitism and classism, putting the werewolves in the backseat.
It is a good movie though. Highly recommended, but maybe not right now.
