Bright spot in the sea of dark news
Mar. 17th, 2025 08:51 pmNevada lawmakers have a "Lock the Clock" bill that will do away with the Daylight Saving crap and keep it here on Standard Time.
This is HUGE! Out of the 50 states, Hawaii and Arizona don't do it. Hawaii gets so much sun already, the time change is pointless. AZ on the otherhand, gets so damn hot in the Summer, they need relief from the sun.
Southern end of NV, where Las Vegas is, also gets very damn hot in the Summer. The city is in the Mojave Desert, and Death Valley is a two hour drive away. Triple digits are the norm there, and last year was bad heat-wise. Also get a lot of sun through out the year too.
Up here at the Northern part, it's high desert and not so hot, but the temps do go up. Also get a lot of sun - 300 days of sunshine every year.
NV is the third sunniest US state (New Mexico is second, Arizona's NUMBER ONE and a close neighbor of Las Vegas - about 300 miles).
Valid reasons for not needing that "extra" hour of sunlight.
Don't know when the bill is going to be viewed/voted on/whatever. Most current updates are a week old. I will keep checking, and hoping.

Date: Mar. 18th, 2025 04:33 pm (UTC)I'd love to do away with the time change.
Hawaii's light and dark remain fairly constant, due to the proximity to the equator. It's pretty much night there at 8pm no matter what time of year it is. I found that consistency in daylight and temperature to meld one day into another so that I never really knew what season we were in until chatting with family back home. "Oh, it's Thanksgiving this weekend? I could have sworn it was June..."
I hope you get to scrap the stupid time change. Maybe it will give other regions the courage to follow suit.
