This is really a rather important discovery if you consider the implications. With a little research into Cage's cohorts during the Civil War, it may very well put Abe Lincoln within the scope of Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon. This would open a whole new wing of historical figures with Bacon numbers during the Victorian era, and quite possibly a bridge to pre-motion picture theater if not through Lincoln then perhaps through John Wilkes Booth.
