That last one explains Dw's cheery (been awhile since their last) announcement that included a welcome to long numbered x-amount of new users. I originally thought this was maybe a whole mess of tumblr users who got fed up using it for rp and migrated to DW. Like the LJ rpers did way back when Subject header for comments was done away with for awhile.
I'm not really worried. Been here since 2002 and have seen a lot. Didn't leave any of those other times, and I'm not going now.

Funny thing, I was thinking about update&importing cause of the new year and has been about five since I last did. Wish thought of doing it sooner before everybody and their brother panicked.
Guess better go get busy on that.

Haven't the Russians owned LJ for years? Actually it's worked a lot better since the Russians bought it. I think they've done a good job with it. Without the Russians there probably wouldn't be an LJ any more.
I had no idea DreamWidth still existed! Last time I checked in there it was as dead as the dodo.

Date: Jan. 4th, 2017 06:35 am (UTC)I'm so lazy that I don't even want to set up a DW for the sake of backing up entries. I'm trying to be more present here on LJ for the new year, and throwing DW into the mix just sounds like work, lol.
I've been here since about 2000 in some incarnation or another (different user names) and have weathered tons of OMG DDOS ATTACK/RUSSIA/ETC situations, which always seemed to resolve themselves. Not planning on going anywhere. 😉

Date: Jan. 4th, 2017 06:39 am (UTC)You're right about DW. Most are just using it as back-up for their LJs. There is activity, but from what I can tell (with the English speakers, dunno what the Russians are doing), it's primarily in anon communities where you don't need a personal journal.
