zimon66I've recently joined a "Battle of the Planets" Group over on Yahoo. Unlike another "Gatchaman" Group on there, this one is active and the Mods are on top of things. I'm going to lurk for awhile before saying anything, like about my love for Spectra Soldiers (seriously, they're my favorite characters).
In other news - I have a very annoying pop-up problem going on for 2 weeks now. I thought originally somebody stuck this damn thing on my nephew's site, but no. It comes up when there's a bunch of pop-ups on a site - I'm not sure exactly how it works, guess piggy-back riding - for awhile it was the "Nude Celeb Revue", a ad that would cover-up my toolbar and no way to close it except to manualy turn-off the machine. Well, after dumping out cookies, updating patches, running both "Ad-aware" and my virus protection, having a "TrendMicro" do a free PC scan, disc-cleanup, double checking the History to make sure that was dumped out, I still sometimes get the stupid thing. Right now, got a "blank" window (with no way to shrink or close, that covered my toolbar) while on a site with pop-ups. From past experiences, I can't always close a pop-up while it's downloading or my system freezes-up so I shrink some down and then close them. This pain in the arse pop-up seems to be following a certain pattern -
1)When it appears, it's on sites and or something that will have pop-ups of some sort.
2)I noticed when I closed the first pop-up ad (on my nephew's site over on AngelFire) that while trying to shrink and close the following ones, I got the pop-up window from hell.
3)There is a "pause" before the PUWFH (pop-up window from hell) appears - it's the sort of pause that means another pop-up is coming up - then the toolbar "disappears". If I get light blue, it's the "Nude Celeb Revue" ad, white it's a blank window.
4)After manualy turning off the computer and logging back on, went back to the same site. This time, I didn't close the first pop-up ad and didn't get the other pop-ups - interesting. In the past (before all this PUWFH jazz), would whether or not closing the first pop-up, the other ones would appear.
5)Noticed a conection to my firewall getting pinged and that damn "Nude Celeb Revue" showing up. Also after cleaning my system, no porn ad in the PUWFH.
My conclusion is - I highly doubt my system is the problem since I make every effort to take care of it and protect myself. So my guess is that somebody out there on the Net has created a "worm" that's attracted to pop-ups. Why else would I get a porn ad when I haven't been to any adult sites? Why else would I get a blank PUWFH after dumping out my temp files and cookies? I think this worm piggy-backs on legit pop-ups, causes a porn ad and leaves a cookie. But get rid of the cookie and or do something that interupts the process, go on a site with a bunch of pop-ups and do something to trigger the worm, get only half the worm (the blank PUWFH).
Or I could be completely wrong *shrugs*
