Jul. 19th, 2009 02:57 pmIt's currently 100 degrees outside and I'm sweating from sitting still.
I live in a dry heat area. With the low humidity, high 80s are comfortable and mid 90s even tolerable. When it starts inching up into high 90s, the simmering begins. 100s, slim chance of getting ANY rest without a fan running. Friday night was misery, I flipped around in bed until the wee hours in the morning when I broke down and turned the fan on (hate having a fan go during sleep time; don't like the noise, I worry about certain appliances operating unsupervised and indoor air conditioning is for wimps :p ).
Saturday night was ok. Tonight though, fan usage depends on whether or not the tepid wind blowing right now dissipates enough heat to cool things off.
Thank the Gods triple digits don't stick around here long.

Date: Jul. 20th, 2009 02:30 am (UTC)Where I live, it always seems to be humid so A/C is a must.
I remember landing in Vegas and stepping out into the air a few years ago in July. I love the heat but the wind was blowing and it felt like a blow dryer...the heat was ok as long as the wind didn't blow. Here in NY, when it is hot and sticky, we pray for any breeze at all.
Best thing about Vegas? No mosquitoes!
I'm headed to Vegas in about a year for a Kiwanis convention.

Date: Jul. 20th, 2009 04:23 am (UTC)I'm up in the opposite end of NV (drive to Northern CA's border is 1-2 hours away?). No blow dryer effect today. Mosquitoes? - there's water around for breeding, but I think treatment programs keep them in check and the low humidity helps too. Zip on fleas, though. Too damn dry for those little bastards!!!
I've heard about the Kiwanis :) Many moons ago, a young me was in a playground (somewhere) and the lion drinking fountain had their plaque on or near it.
