Just spent 10 minutes picking up baby wolf spiders (about a dozen) off the kitchen/dining room floor. All the while I'm trying to carefully snag these guys (between my fingers - using index nail and thumb pad, dump them into a jar to then be dumped outside), wondering why are they in my house and where the hell is their mom. Meanwhile, the cats are fascinated by something next to the open sliding door (I'm thinking it's more baby spiders).

Found mom two minutes ago (what the cats were fascinating over). Don't know how great big momma squeezed past the screen door, but got her back outside along with most of whatever the brood I could find.

Damn, I'm nice.


EDIT: Cripes!!! Found more of these little bastards running around. I'm getting good at wrangling the herd.


EDIT 2: HOW THE HELL DID A FULL SIZE FEMALE, LOADED UP WITH A BROOD, GET IN HERE!!!??? Looks like I got most of the kids - don't ask how many.

I like spiders. Coming back to the computer, saw one spiderling near my chair, didn't think too much about it. Saw more, realized something funny was going on (that many running around, means they hopped off of mom, who's somewhere nearby) decided to round them up. That led to finding mom - she's damn lucky cause the cats would have killed her.

Still can't figure out how she got in here. I've had wolf spiders in the house before, but never a big female hauling a load of kids.

I kinda like spiders, but I'm a little wary of them, even though we only have one venomous spider in NZ .. we do have the Australian White Tails (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_tail_spider) though, and they ARE a problem .. no matter what that article says, their bite can cause necrosis in some people, and the bite is pretty painful too ..

The 8-legged smartasses here, they leave a line across walkways that hits me right above the nose bridge.
