Tired and thinking
Apr. 14th, 2003 10:33 pmNot unusual, to be so bloody tired and have the mind going like a Energizer bunny.
Went to bed way too late last night and the keyboard looks so soft and fluffy............also stuffed myself with Easter candy that arrived today from the parental units, probably should start seriously consider eating real food before hitting the sack.
The reason why I wanted to make a entry........well two reasons, the first one being that I need to post more in this thing and since this popped into my head just now.....reason number two, a couple of weeks ago I channeled Coyote. It wasn't planned it sorta just happened, but it was NICE having the Trickster inside making my veins sing and dance. Didn't pull any fast ones on anybody just found some things funny that weren't funny, wasn't laughing out loud the amusement was kept inside.
He hung around off/on for about 48 hours then gone. It wasn't a problem having him around for awhile, if anything really screwy happened Anubis (my totem) would have stepped in and dealt with things.
While Coyote was in, I tried to assume the godhead of Anubis a couple of times but he would get bumped out - it wasn't a big deal, Coyote wasn't doing any harm so Anubis let him stay.
I wanted to write all this down when it was happening but didn't - probably wouldn't have posted it at all if it wasn't for being so tried and loopy off of candy that caused it to re-surface.
Guess I want Coyote to pay another visit - another round of singing and dancing in my veins probably because somebody has me currently irked due to their coming off all the way beyond proud and I want to silently laugh long and hard with Coyote at said person's true nature - a fool with nose stuck-up so high in the air can't see the stairs leading down several floors until aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhh........*howls of laughter*

Tricksters, Inc
Date: Apr. 16th, 2003 12:41 pm (UTC)Here's a thought, do you think that the ancient Egypians saw jackals
as Tricksters, the living ones at least? Anubis was jackal headed, but Set was also portrayed at times as having a jackal's head (but usually was shown as having a cobra's head), but maybe this had to do with him taking on the added portfolio of Evil after he slew Osirus. The statues of jackals in tombs served to guide and protect the departed's spirit on their journey, but the real thing was seen as a nuisance, people left poisoned meat for the poor lil puppies. I think I remember reading that they also burrowed into tombs to eat the dead and THAT inspired mummification, but that's just speculation. Let me know what you think

He is a VERY early God that was originally in the role now occupied by Osiris and not evil at all, but then there was a change in Egyptian religion - like what happened to some Pagan Gods when Christianity took over - Set was "demoted" in favor of new Gods. Can't blame him for being royally pissed nowadays.
Another major change in religion was doing away with ritual cannibalism by introducing mummification. I've never read anything on jackals digging into tombs to munch on bodies - there's easier ways of getting something to eat than having to dig a long way. Plus what's a mummifed body but "long pig jerky", unless the body was put in a into a tomb/box/buried deep it would still be edible.

Date: Apr. 20th, 2003 08:17 pm (UTC)No, Anubis was about as far from being a Prankster
as I am from interpreting the Rosetta Stone, but sometimes, the Totem isn't always representative of the Follower or animal, you know? A Totem's multi-dimensional, Bear's both Warrior and Healer, the Guardian of the secret of raising the dead. But the one's I've known that have followed Bear were either total pacifists (not necessarily a bad thing, but there are times when you need to fight) or had an adrenaline mode that would put Viking Berserkers to shame. I don't know why I said that, Z, maybe the inscrutable face seemed so perfect for a "Why, no, Anhur, I have no idea WHO hath superglued your khopesh in its sheath" prank. With a look like that, Coyote could steal half the world.
I so need to get that book you recommended, thanks, Hon
