I dunno about this.
Mar. 15th, 2012 06:44 pmFor those who didn't know, Tim Burton's latest movie (coming out in May) is Dark Shadows with (no surprise) Johnny Depp as Barnabas Collins. It's based on the soap opera series (June 27, 1966 to April 2, 1971) of the same name.
Here's a clip of Original DS:

Depp looks too young, he's wearing too much make-up, Angelique is too evil and too blond and wearing too much lipstick, the comedy is too over the top, it's all just too, too, too.
In spite of the heavy greasepaint, corny dialogues, cheap scenery, and so on, the original WAS NOT MEANT TO BE PERCEIVED AS FUNNY!!! This was a DRAMA and that's how it was written and acted as.
"Low-key, humorous homage" - can you do that, Burton? Nope, guess not.
