For those who didn't know, Tim Burton's latest movie (coming out in May) is Dark Shadows with (no surprise) Johnny Depp as Barnabas Collins. It's based on the soap opera series (June 27, 1966 to April 2, 1971) of the same name.

Here's a clip of Original DS:

Depp looks too young, he's wearing too much make-up, Angelique is too evil and too blond and wearing too much lipstick, the comedy is too over the top, it's all just too, too, too.

In spite of the heavy greasepaint, corny dialogues, cheap scenery, and so on, the original WAS NOT MEANT TO BE PERCEIVED AS FUNNY!!! This was a DRAMA and that's how it was written and acted as.

"Low-key, humorous homage" - can you do that, Burton? Nope, guess not.

That is a fucking travesty! OMG! The only thing I might appreciate is that Barnabas Collins was actually supposed to be a young man, Jonathan Frid tried his best with that really long comb-over. But I can't believe it, I knew Burton would have to come up with something to make what was a very long, drawn-out, slow-moving story into a 2 hour plot, but that is AWFUL! But maybe he just figured that he could never be true to the show or reproduce it, so he's just going to make fun of it. Either way, am I going to watch it? OF COURSE I AM! I might just bitch about it the entire time.

And Barnabas never announced over dinner that he was a vampire! Half the plot was him trying to keep it a secret! Argh!

This is terribly disappointing...I really had hopes for this :-(

With Tim Burton and Johnny Depp involved I won't be going anywhere near it.

I watched both clips and they do seem totally different from each other. That having been said, I think I'd like Burton's film. :)
