Tumblr is good for pictures and gifs. It's popular cause, again, pictures and gifs (and the free hosting of them). For anything else, sorry, it sucks! The commenting system is horrible (so&so liked this/rebloged this - really?!), all the repeat-repeat-repeat content, no easy way of meeting&friending others with common interests, is why I won't get one. The interaction is like people are all together in one room, but yelling down rabbit holes.

Funny hearing FB's the threat to LJ, when in fact it's tumblr's free pic&gif hosting (some day, Yahoo will implement a membership fee and thus killing the place).

There are some official Tumblrs, I know. Most people I know don't care for it but everyone is stuck over there because it is the only place to get the fan stuff now. No, you cannot talk to anyone. There are NO filters. Everything is just out there. Loads of trouble as a result.

No official Stan Lee Tumblr as of yet. Just the fan made ones...

Yeah, that's the problem with flavor of the moment trendy stuff, too many people flocking to it and common sense frequently flies out the window during the rush. I predict tumblr will wind up like Beanie Baby craze and implode (courtesy of Yahoo).

Back to Stan Lee: He's always struck me as somebody who enjoys getting fan commentary almost as much he does talking about whatever. "So&so liked this/reblogged this", there's no substance to it. Million of those is nice, but nothing more than junkfood. Visiting each individual reblog to read that person's commentary (if there is one) is a huge waste of time. The "ask a question" is another individual read&time waster, I can't see him enjoying tumblr at all.

No, but people use Tumblr to get info out. Neil Gaiman is on it, Orlando Jones uses it pretty effectively. It is useful for fan info. And spreading rumors, LOL.

As a forum for people to communicate-useless. People complain and say they like LJ better but most of the fan people I know are just over at Tumblr reflagging their conversations. So, why complain?

I think Lee's people just decided to put up an LJ to get the word out about stuff. Not that he is not looking in on it, I am sure he is, and is deciding on just what he wants out there.

Did you read the comments...people are pissed off. Not about him joining LJ, but about the "spamming" of the announcement.

I never saw it, but then...I don't know.

I enjoy Tumblr. Not because it's an effective communication tool (it's not as far as interacting is concerned) but because it's an excellent source of photos and gifs. Great for fandoms.

Yeah, I saw the comments. Since it didn't popped up on my end, I went looking for it just to see how bad it really was. Never did find the "spamicorn".


Fandom-wise, yes, it's good for pics&gifs, and maybe finding some info. But, group interaction is a big part of fandom. Reposting and liking something a bazillion times doesn't replace actual discussion with one another about said something.

Tumblr interaction is like people are all together in one room, but yelling down rabbit holes. Overhauling the commenting system would be a major improvement and a smart move, but the tumblr heads are too preoccupied right now with making BIG BUCKS. Their current brilliant scheme is turning the place into the next YouTube. Already royally ticked off the users by switching dimension numbers and screwing up peoples' previous works.

People are bitching about the changes already, and I don't blame them. There are already posts about how to get around that.

It's really more of a young people's forum, and maybe the kids don't mind. it's certainly great to be a lurker -- there is no way for anyone to block you or kick you off.
