Accidently upgraded to Windows 10
Jun. 23rd, 2019 07:12 pmWay back when Microsoft had the free Windows 10 offer - I passed on it. At first, because was brand spankin new, wanted to do the old wait&see for any major bugs to come up and be worked out. Then, due to Microsoft being sneaky and tricking/forcing people into the upgrade and making a big headache for some, I blocked it.
Flash forward to now: Windows 7 support is coming to an end and Windows 10 is pretty much a-okay. After reading Lifehacker and seeing the "Microsoft’s Windows 10 Update Assistant" mention, thought should see if my system was still compatible (back then it was). Go thru the process for Update Assistant.
About an hour later, I got Windows 10 installed and for free???!!! Dunno what happened. Maybe I got a key during that past offer and it's been sitting all this time in some forgotten folder? Microsoft feeling kindly and a little guilty today? Planets were aligned?
Whelp, so far, everything's groovy. The only problem I've had is making FireFox the default browser. Screeching in frustration and Googling for half in hour lead to a solution and Method 4 did the trick!
New layout takes a little getting use to. I prefer start-up menus popping up/down with mousing than having to click or search - minor quibble. The Update is set for "seven days later". Route, Roku, etc., all working fine.
Looks like I owe Windows 10 apology - Sorry I doubted you.
